At Least Words With Friends is Admitting it Has Problems

While Words With Friends is one of my favorite iPhone pastimes it has its fair share of issues. Lengthy loading times, freezing, and crashing are not uncommon for this app. It looks like there is finally an anouncement letting users know the developers are aware of the problem and are trying to fix a bug when it arises. Good first step to retaining players of the game. Next would be to eliminate the problems altogether.

Update: It seems a lot of people are directed to this page looking for answers but may not be finding them. Please feel free to leave any questions in the comments section below. If I am unable to answer them maybe another person visiting the page will be able to!

Weird. I’ve never had any technical problems with Words With Friends. Regardless, it’s good to know that they’re working on the app and refining it.

Really? You are very lucky my friend. Almost everyone I know has had problems. Even after I posted this it started working then after a few moves decided to go down again.

I heard it causes a virus on ur Iphone. is that true?

I have had nothing but problems with the Words With Friends app! First, the “Oops’ message appeared and now the app opens and immediately closes within a few seconds. I have uninstalled and reinstalled WWF, taken my phone back to the factory settings and reinstalled, even visited the Apple store and done everything they suggested, and nothing has helped. I filed a report with the company and have received no help. I hear there are a lot of people who have had problems with the app. Any suggestions?

WTF!?!?!? I am about to delete WWF for good. It takes 20-minutes for me to make a move with the constant crashing, freezing, closing!!! GRRRRRR!!!

    Just venting…sorry…

I just got words with friends it been frozen on sending for about a day what do I do?

If you’re running iOS4 this is what you would do:

      1. Double click the home button to pull up the apps currently running in the background.
      2. Swipe left until you see WWF, if it isn’t one of the first four.
      3. Tap and hold down any of the app icons. They will begin to wiggle and a minus sign will appear in the upper right hand corner of the icon.
      4. Press the minus sign to force quit the app.
      5. Then reopen WWF.

You can also restart your phone (which is good to do every once in a while anyway). Additionally, make sure your phone is updated to the most current version.

I have had an iPhone for years and now have ios4. All this time I never knew how to close apps that were running in the background. smh. Thanks! This fixed my current WWF issue and I know it’s going to come in handy in the future. How did I not know about this? I swear I don’t live under a rock!

WWF froze, and then it froze my Android v. 2.2.2 Optimus phone. As in it would not respond to any buttons pressed and went to black and will now not respond to anything I do, even attempting to shut it off does not work. What do I do?

  7. Jennifer B says:

I turned my phone off, then back on and….VIOLA!, it works again. thanks for the fix.

  8. Danny says:

Constantly getting the Oops..cant send your chat message. Check your internet connection! rebooted, reinstalled, restored Iphone? WTH…suggestion?

HI, I opened WWF this morning and it would not allow me to play without uploading a new version. When I did, all the other apps on my phone will no longer load. It just says “Waiting” underneath them all. What should I do? Have you heard of this happening? I have already shut down the iphone (3) and turned it back on, but no change.

    Thanks for your help.

    • Kyle Brazil says:

I have had that happen before (app downloads stuck on “Waiting”) and you are right, restarting doesn’t seem to work. The best remedy I know of is to sync your phone with iTunes.

This should fix the issue but one caveat is that your apps may not be in the same order or folders you originally had them in. Not sure why that happens.

I suddenly today had the crash issue with words with friends even tho I’d updated it ages ago. My fix?
    1. managed to squeeze in a resign (of current game) before crash
    2. reinstalled words free and uninstalled words paid at same time with a sync
    3. started a new game and played a move
    4. repeated step 2 but this time, reinstalled words paid and uninstalled words free at same time with a sync
    - seems to have worked
    good luck

whenever i open up app and try to log in, it says “Oops! We cant seem to login in with FB (faecbook) right now. Please tr again later.”

I have tried to restart ipod, reinstall app, did a lot of research…what else can i do? it wont work.

    • Kyle Brazil says:

Could be an issue with Facebook. Have you tried unlinking your account to the app then adding it back again?

    • Kyle Brazil says:

When you open up the app at the bottom of the “Your Move” section there is a “Settings” button next to “Help.” Tap that, then “Logout of Facebook” on the screen that appears.

Also make sure that you’re running the most current version of iOS and the app.

  12. Suz says:

So frustrated with WWF! I am about to quit for good, although I use to really enjoy it. When I go to the app, it says “updating games”, but then suddenly goes back to the main app home screen. I have restarted my phone (iPhone 3g), synced with itunes, uninstalled and reinstalled (worked for a few days)—all with no luck. And when I reinstalled it wouldn’t let me keep my same user name. Anyone have suggestions?
