Confessions of a Documentary Lover

After that post about the list of things to do before I graduate I realized just how much I enjoy lists. They simplify our lives by stating just the facts. While I am usually a long winded person, I am also impatient. Sometimes I don’t have time to read a ten page article giving me five reasons why Dane Cook is not funny (trust me, there are a lot more than five). Just write them out, bullet or number if you like, and that is that. It saves time and makes more mundane things easier to pay attention to.

As I’ve mentioned before I’m an avid movie fan so my most logical list would be about films (see, I told you it would make it back in blog eventually). I love watching documentaries and simply do not think people see enough of them. Everyone assumes they are going to be boring but they are quite the opposite. Some are humorous, some are eye opening, and some are depressing, but they are all educational. Never have I watched a documentary and thought to myself, “Wow, I didn’t learn anything.” I can always take something away from them. The key is to watch documentaries about things you are interested in or want to learn more about. They will spark your interest and lead you to conduct further research. For me it is fun and exciting.

So, here is a list, in no particular order, of my favorite documentaries:

  • Jesus Camp
  • Sicko
  • Spellbound
  • Bowling for Columbine
  • Cocaine Cowboys
  • Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
  • Religulous
  • Super Size Me
  • Who Killed the Electric Car?
  • An Inconvenient Truth
  • No End in Sight
  • Fahrenheit 9/11
  • My Kid Could Paint That
  • This Film is Not Yet Rated

Documentaries I plan to see:

  • The U.S. vs. John Lennon
  • Ralph Nader: An Unreasonable Man
  • King Corn
  • American Drug War: The Last White Hope
  • The Corporation
  • For the Bible Tells Me So
  • I.O.U.S.A.

Let me know if you have any other good suggestions.
